Lee and Judy took us to Atl and stayed and ate lunch with us. This was a wonderful loving kind act on their part. They plan on picking us up also when we return. They flight was mostly uneventful, comfortable but not TOO! Food was good, service could have been better, but I believe they did the best they could. Very few were as smiling and personable as our hotel staff today.
Arrived Casablanca this am early Morocco time. Thought we had lost tickets, went thru some hoops to get the electronic version and was given the free hotel room. Very nice.
We wanted to visit the city, but I thought the price was out of range $160. I was wrong, ended up paying 89$ with tip. Momi drove us in his old Mercedes diesel for 3 ½ hours.
Was great! Saw a huge Mosk built 70 years ago or so. Momi said it was the 2nd most important mosk in the Muslim world, next to Mecca. I believe this is claimed by many cities though. Some kids saw Beck’s Chick Filet Cow and wanted it
This building is impressive to look at. Across the courtyard they are building a Muslim bibliotheca (library). It is also extremely large and ornate, covering the size of several city blocks.
Ate at a McDonalds, Got a shot of too strong coffee a little bity ice cream cone and a bottle of water. Bought some overpriced Clorets gum from a beggar child. He was very appealing and my heart went out to him... When he saw the coin I gave him he handed me another pack of gum.
On a wall of a building we saw a “Casablanca, Bogart picture. Going to fast to get a photo though.
The hotel served us a very nice lunch at no charge which I was not expecting. It was excellent, a salad or horderve lentils, carrots, cucumbers, and potatoes.
Then a stewed chicken in tomatoes with pasta and a most excellent layered cake similar to but not tiramisu.
Mary and I got only a couple of hours sleep on the trip over.
No Plane had a working music system, but they gave us headphones anyway. The flight attendants were so-so, but hotel staff and taxi driver was very nice and accommodating.
Casablanca has about 5.5 million people. We would never survive driving here they make an extra lane and drive like crazy, avoiding mopeds taxis, and pedestrians... Nerve-wracking.
When you see sheep or a few cattle, you also usually see a Shepard boy.
The hotel Bellman told me that employment in anything except the tourist trade is a problem for the country. He was college educated.and a bellman.
Took many photos with Becky’s Chick-Filet Cow.
We are awaiting now to go to board for flight to Lome, Togo.
We paid extra for another bag and even the skycap stated “you have some heavy bags. Each weighing close to 70 lbs. School supplies and sewing supplies.
God has entered us into Africa easily, easing the culture shock which will explode I am sure tomorrow. I know each step of the way he has been with us. Each stumbling block was eased and timing really worked out perfect each time even though we thought it wouldn’t...
At the airport in Casablanca we thought we had lost out tickets, but they are electronic tickets and you cannot lose them. God is good... The flight was uneventful except unbearably hot and stuffy towards the end. Of course they issued us headphones. If I can find them all I will sell them on eBay. Of course the sound did not work. But after a movie (it was probably in French anyway) they showed different films that were excellent and hilarious without sound.
